Right off the dock
- several boats haul in their fresh catch and sell it right off their boat during Sunday's Channel Islands Harbor farmers market. you can buy it whole or ask them to fillet the fish. selection changes weekly - it's whatever they catch that morning! just look for the sandwich board pointing down to the dock. last week (9/11) i saw live rock crabs for sale!

The Jolly Oyster

- i haven't had the opportunity to check out this little gem yet, but it looks promising. visit their website to get information on how to find them, what to bring and view their price list. If you buy 5 dozen oysters or 7 pounds of clams, they'll pay for your parking! they also have a really heartwarming story, which I'm a total sucker for anytime. makes me want to eat their oysters even more!

Novy Ranches

- okay, so they're technically not local (FDA defines "local" as within 400 miles), but they're still within CA. they can be found at farmers markets all over southern CA (including the CI Harbor one i frequent). check out their website for a list of locations & times. the great thing about Novy Ranches is that they let you pre-order your meat selections online, then pick them up at your local farmers market. awesome!
